Finishing the Floor in the L400

It’s done! After the subfloor was done, I added a vinyl floor above it that will be the permanent floor. I wanted to have a cozy apartment feeling in the back so I wanted to make sure that we had a full floor that could be partially removed when we need to put down the seats or add the back row.

And it came out great! The vinyl was extremely easy to cut with a combination of box cutter (for straight lines) and a jigsaw (for curves). The two hatches can be removed to expose the subfloor to allow the back to be rearranged.

The remaining work is detailing around the cuts. There are some spots that aren’t as finished as I’d like them to be. The hatches themselves have some empty space around them as well.

All in all I’m very happy with how this turned out. And it is family approved. The next step will be finishing this up and starting on some reupholstering as well to make it ever cozier!
